Following a recent statement from US Presidential candidate Donald Trump suggesting he might offer an advisory role to Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, Musk has responded with a light-hearted social media post. Trump’s remarks came in the context of his broader discussion about policy changes, including potential shifts in electric vehicle (EV) tax credits.
Trump’s Offer
On Monday, Trump, who is leading the Republican race for the upcoming presidential election, floated the idea of appointing Musk to a key position in his administration. This proposal followed Trump’s critique of the $7,500 tax credit for EV purchases, which he hinted might be eliminated if he returns to the White House. Trump praised Musk’s intellect and potential contribution, stating, “He’s a very smart guy. I certainly would, if he would do it, I certainly would. He’s a brilliant guy.”
Musk’s Response
In response, Musk took to social media with a playful post, stating, “I am willing to serve.” The post features Musk standing before a podium with the title “Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE),” a nod to Dogecoin, the cryptocurrency he has championed. While Musk’s post did not confirm his acceptance of any offer, it has fueled speculation about his potential involvement in a future Trump administration.
Musk, who recently endorsed Trump for the presidency, has yet to make an official statement on whether he would accept a formal role. The interaction between the two figures has certainly captured public attention and spurred discussions about what such a collaboration might entail.
